Coach Andrew provides baseball lessons in West Los Angeles at Stoner Park
My name is Coach Andrew Russell. I originally fell in love with the game of baseball because my dad played in college. Growing up, playing in college was my dream. I played 1B behind an All-American, and I didn’t see too much of the infield in college as a result. I would always throw knuckleballs during warm-ups and at practice (a knuckleball pitcher in HS), the coach wanted me to be a knuckleball pitcher instead of first base. I was always going all out during practice at 1B, but took the transition to P as an opportunity to play! Being a team-player helped me get the opportunity, because even though I wasn’t seeing many innings my first two years, I was not one to be outworked at practice. Taking this mindset early on helped me to truly learn not only humility and teamwork, but also the game on a deeper level as I always had to be finding ways to improve my talent and baseball IQ as a whole.
This path ultimately led me to being the coach that I am today and giving me the amazing opportunity to make a positive impact on youth players with the knowledge I have worked so hard to achieve over my playing years. I have been very dedicated to this beautiful game and continue to refine my skills as a coach and communicator week in and week out. Baseball is a lifestyle and one that I love to live. I don’t think I will ever fully separate myself from continuing to step on the field. Coaching is the best way for me to continue doing that and I’m honored to have the chance to coach you and/or your player. I look forward to working with you!
