Coach John provides baseball lessons in Newport Beach at Bonita Canyon Sports Park.
My name is Coach John Portone and I love being around the game of baseball. I have been playing for 26 years and my main positions throughout my playing career are First Base and Center Field. I have played my whole life, learned from amazing coaches at the high school and collegiate level, and am now fortunate enough to coach and share my knowledge and experience. I can teach your player how to throw, catch, hit, steal bases and increase their overall baseball IQ. Above all, I love my role as a mentor and coach who helps to guide, mold, and teach new and beginner players how to play smart, safe, and to have fun while doing so!
I have been a student of the game of baseball for my whole life. I have learned from dozens of professional coaches through out my journey as a coach and have been applying my knowledge and passion to the youth players I work with. I have years of experience coaching t-ballers up to high school players in all of the following:
- Baseball Classes
- Private Lessons
- Baseball Camps
- 4 year varsity high school player
- College club baseball player
- Mens league every Sunday
A lesson with me:
A lesson with me would begin with evaluating my player’s current skill set and understand their personal goals and desires to succeed in the game. In general, a lesson with me would begin with a warmup and stretching, then covering the fundamentals of the game, including fielding, hitting, base-stealing, and footwork. No player is the same and no lesson will be the same as I strive to tailor my lessons to fit the needs of the player I am working with.
From there, I will be able to make suggestions and coaching improvements so they can excel at their position and be a team leader. Regardless of your player’s level, a lesson with me will focus on strengthening the mechanics and mentality, to elevate your player’s skill set towards what it takes to succeed in baseball. I look forward to the opportunity of working with you and your player!
