Coach Kai provides baseball lessons in Santa Clarita at Central Park
Short Bio:
My name is Coach Kai Fink and I am an ex-collegiate baseball player and I have played since I was 5 years old. I have over 15 years of playing experience and have worked with renowned Hawaiian baseball coach Kaha Wong, father of Kolton and Kean Wong. My goal is to share my love of baseball and help younger players reach their full potential on and off the field.
Coaching Experience:
I have been a student of baseball since I was five. I played NCAA division II baseball in San Francisco at AAU where we would host clinics to work with younger players to help them develop their game. I love seeing younger players working on their game and pushing themselves to improve and I have been coaching players from age 5 up to 18 years old since I began coaching at the age of 24. My coaches in baseball helped me be a better person on and off the field and I hope to do the same.
Playing Experience:
– 4 Year Varsity player in High School.
– The most improved player from Freshman to Senior year.
– Named All Island 1st baseman (in Hawaii) Senior year.
– Played in the interscholastic championships all 4 years.
– Team leader in RBIs and Homeruns Senior year.
– 1 of 3 players to graduate and play collegiate ball.
A lesson with me:
A lesson with me will always begin by taking some time to get to know any new players as well as their parents and the expectations they both may have. After establishing a baseline (pun intended) I begin every session with a dynamic warmup to make sure to reduce any possibility of injury.
From there, depending on the goals we have outlined I move into specific drills to help improve skillsets depending on what the focus is. I.E. If we are focusing on improving fielding, I would move into ground ball drills, quick hands drills, foot speed, and ball approach drills. I like to take time to break down the mechanics but after that, I believe practice makes permanent!
My favorite motivational quote:
If you are afraid to fail, you will never do the things you are capable of doing. – John Wooden
