❓ Hustle Ball FAQ

What is Hustle Ball?

Hustle Ball is MADE Baseball’s signature game format — a fast-paced, coach-led version of live baseball that emphasizes tempo, awareness, and constant engagement.

Players rotate positions frequently, run hard on every play, and are coached live during the game to develop better instincts and sharper baseball IQ.

It’s designed to be competitive, developmental, and above all — fun.

Learn more on our Hustle Ball page.

Who can participate in Hustle Ball games?

Hustle Ball is designed for players ages 8-15 who have at least some experience playing organized baseball.

It’s ideal for players who want more reps, better in-game awareness, and a high-energy environment that pushes development.

If your player is brand new to baseball, we recommend starting with a private lesson first.

What’s the age range and skill level required?

Hustle Ball is open to players ages 8–15 who are comfortable playing live baseball with real baseballs. Ages groups are split by 8-12 yrs and 13-15 yrs.

While we welcome a mix of skill levels, players should have basic baseball experience and be able to catch, throw, and hit safely in a live game setting.

If your player is brand new, we recommend beginning with private lessons to build foundational skills before joining Hustle Ball.

What makes Hustle Ball different from traditional baseball?

Hustle Ball is faster, more dynamic, and more development-focused than traditional youth baseball. One of the core principles we teach is how to develop good habits and “control the controllables” — no matter the situation. This mindset is what we call playing the MADE Way.

Players rotate positions every inning, receive live in-game coaching, and get many at-bats per game. Every class is built around hustle, awareness, communication, and baseball IQ.

All games are coach pitch, with a skilled instructor who adjusts the challenge based on each hitter’s ability — pushing advanced players while building confidence in developing ones.

Hustle Ball places a strong emphasis on situational awareness — teaching players to understand the game, anticipate what’s coming next, and know exactly where to be and when to be there. This helps build instinctive reactions and smarter, faster decision-making on the field.

Games are highly competitive, full of energy, and — most importantly — fun. There’s no standing around. Every player is constantly engaged, moving with purpose, and learning the game at a faster pace.

Do I need to register in advance for Hustle Ball?

Yes. All players must register in advance to participate in Hustle Ball classes or games.

Spots are limited to ensure quality instruction and balanced teams, so we recommend booking early through our registration page.

Drop-ins without prior registration are not generally accepted (unless we don’t have a full class).

How Does Hustle Ball Work?

We play fast-paced coach-pitch baseball games with dynamic rules designed to develop high-level baseball IQ, accountability, and competitive fun.

Each Hustle Ball class is a live baseball game led by a MADE Baseball coach. Teams are picked on the spot (either by coaches or designated captains), and players are placed in assigned dugouts before the game begins.

Coaches pitch to hitters to maintain a fast pace and ensure high-quality instruction throughout the game. Players rotate positions often and receive real-time coaching during “teachable moments” to improve baseball IQ and execution.

The game is competitive and fun — but players are also held to a high standard of hustle, communication, and attitude at all times.

How Is Hustle Ball Scored and Managed?

Games are scored using a 5-run per inning limit, and modified rules help maximize competition and learning.

Hustle Ball is structured to keep the game moving while also reinforcing accountability and teamwork. Coaches manage the game flow and scoring based on both performance and effort.

Each team can score up to 5 runs per inning. In the final inning, if a team is trailing, they may be allowed to catch up and tie the score — but they cannot win unless they do it within the 5-run limit.

In addition to traditional runs, coaches may also award or remove outs based on a player’s behavior or hustle. For example:

  • Not sprinting to first base = automatic out
  • Striking out looking = 2 outs instead of 1 (on specific days)
  • Team communication breakdowns = runner safe by default

Coaches track the score throughout the game, but the true goal isn’t just winning — it’s how you play. Players are reminded often that hustle, awareness, and leadership matter more than the scoreboard.

How Is the Player of the Game Chosen?

We choose one Player of the Game for each team — not just based on performance, but on leadership, hustle, and teamwork.

The Player of the Game is chosen based on who best embodied what it means to #GetMADE. Coaches evaluate each player from warm-up to final huddle based on:

  • Consistent hustle and positive energy
  • Helping teammates avoid infractions and stay focused
  • Aggressive, smart at-bats and base running
  • Strong defensive awareness and positioning
  • Clear and helpful communication on the field
  • Clean and complete uniform presentation

We don’t just reward skill — we reward leadership, effort, and attention to detail.
