What up champions? I often talk to my players about the necessity to be mindful of the fact that their thinking mechanics are the most important mechanics they can learn to improve. The way you think controls everything; your brain is the strongest muscle in your body. With that said, as a baseball player and an all around champion person, you must practice how you talk to yourself as well as your teammates. It is vital to practice positive language when you look in the mirror at yourself, when you step into the batter’s box, when you step on the mound to pitch, or when your teammate comes in the dugout from a tough strikeout. Practicing the words you use to speak to yourself and others on a day to day basis will absolutely make you a better player.
Real baseball players understand the concept of failure in the game. You never actually “fail,” rather, you produce a result. When you strike out in the batter’s box, you don’t fail, you produce a result. What you do with that result will determine what happens next. If you moan and groan and tell yourself how terrible of a player you are, your next result will likely not be much more desirable than what you did previously. If instead, you decide to take what happened in your last at bat and learn from it, maintaining a fundamental foundation of positive self talk, you will greatly improve your chances for a better result on the next try.
Put this one into action by seeing how you talk to yourself the next time you strike out. See how you respond. See if you can practice the power of positive language and learn something from your at bat instead of feeling sorry for yourself and telling yourself how bad of a hitter you are. I bet you’ll improve. Thanks for reading and keep #GettinMADE.
